Gabions – welded box gabions
A gabion is a wire mesh box filled on site with stone or crushed rock. The filled box works as a gravity wall. It holds back ground without a foundation or concrete and lets water through, so no water pressure builds up behind it.
Our gabions are made of welded mesh and galvanized after welding, which means the welds are protected too. For corrosion resistance that is considerably better than mesh galvanized before welding.
Standard sizes are 2000 mm long and 250–1000 mm high. The boxes are joined to each other with spirals or clips and filled with stone larger than the aperture.

Holding back ground between levels in yards, at roadsides and in landscaping.
Noise and wind barriers
The stone fill damps noise and breaks the flow of wind.
Landscaping and edging
Bed edges, seats and decorative barriers, where the stone is part of the design.
Bank and slope protection
Stopping erosion along watercourses and on slopes.
How to choose
Box size
Height is chosen from the height of ground to be held, depth from stability. The rule is that the depth of the wall should be at least a third of its height.
Fill stone
The stone has to be larger than the aperture (76 × 76 mm), usually a 90–150 mm fraction. Stone that is too small falls out through the mesh.
Corrosion protection
Our gabions are galvanized after welding, so the welds are protected as well.
